about

The Underbelly EP is the final instalment in a trilogy of EP's prior to the forthcoming album Fear of Silence. Underbelly contains two new tracks and a thorough re-imaging of the Green Light track by fellow IP artists 13aX.

Green Light:

This is at heart a gospel song. It’s a song about someone trying to hold themselves together for their loved ones and family, while struggling with their fears and the weight of the past that they’re still dragging around with them. They’re pleading with themselves not to crack, even though they really want to.

The Green Light is both a reference to the Great Gatsby and the allure of the other lives we dream we might have, the desire for someone or something to give us permission to just go ahead and lose our shit, to free us from our burdens, from consequence and responsibility.

The piano and vocals are a single ‘live’ take, recorded at RealWorld studios in Box, Somerset, with band overdubs done at Echo Zoo in Eastbourne.

Xyster [zis-ter] - (noun): A surgical instrument for scraping bone. The hidden dark centre of the album Fear of Silence, of our families and our lives. All the fear and insecurity, the failures and betrayals, the guilt and the shame that we try to pretend isn’t there. All the things that went wrong, and how we try to live with them.
